Marine navigation and cartography are currently incompatible with the metric system. Since navigation is closely tied to time, until time can be tortured into some sort of metric box, they will not mesh well. Then we would have to re-draw all the nautical charts to reflect a graticule which also would be metric-compatible. Since metric is so strictly limited in its construction, it would be an awkward thing to do.
