I don't know of any sermons about King Charles IX, but here is a Wikipedia article about him as well as one about his famous mother, Catherine de Medici, who actually governed France while Charles was young (he died at age 24). She is the one most responsible for the St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre.

The first Protestant colony in America was actually named in honor of Charles IX (Charlesfort, South Carolina) -- see here: http://www.puritanboard.com/forum/viewthread.php?tid=7453#pid154739

The Carolinas (North and South) got their name from the Latin version of Charles -- both Charles IX of France and Charles I of England.
