VeggieTales: The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything

We watched this movie mostly for my son, who at 5 was really excited at the idea of the "Rock Monster"! As a movie, well, the people at Big Idea have gotten quite good at their job since the Giant Pickle - animation, plot, dialogue all on par with Hollywood. Unfortunately, their morals seem to be as well. This movie could have been made by Disney if you take out the lines about "Heroes are those who do what's right even when it's hard" ...well, they don't even mention God there so yup. Disney.
Don't get me wrong, it's a fun movie filled with vegetables but please don't expect it to be Christian in any way shape or form. If you can get past that you'll probably enjoy it...although "attack of the cheese snacks" could have easily be left on the cutting room floor in my opinion.
Sadly, I can no longer call VeggieTales Christian. I guess we all knew it was coming when it was bought by non-Christians in '02. Maybe the real surprise is the last 7 years of medium-mild Christian thought.

An episode of the Simpsons had Homer all excited when a new Mega Mart opened and they had everything, "even singing vegetables talking about Christianity". Vegetales is a joke and an embarrasment to Christianity - hence the Simpsons using it!

While it doesn't have to be Christian to be worth watching, I would argue that if the morals are off, then it's more wor for the parents and probably not worth watching. Children soak up the lessons in these films like sponges, and I have discovered with my own children that if I don't spend time explaining what's wrong with the morals, they start living them out. It's confusing for children to have many different value systems tossed in front of them. Much of what comes out of Hollywood is a mixed up mess of morals.

You think that Veggie Tales is a joke, but you have no problem watching the Simpsons?

I should add that my family enjoys Veggie Tales not primarily for any Christian content that is integrated into the storyline, but for the fact that it is well produced, good, clean fun for the innocent minds of young children. Even dad gets a kick out of them once in a while. Speaking of which, the attack of the killer cheese curds was my favorite part in that movie!

Like I said, it's pretty glossy and fun (well, I guess the cheese snacks do have their moment...but I personally enjoyed them mostly in the rock monster song); but around here at least VeggieTales is seen as _the_ Christian video, it's used to entertain kids at sunday school/etc, and I was addressing that assumption more than the value of watching VT for fun. If you like singing veg's then you're likely to watch them anyways.
