This or That?

I am currently applying for seminaries. The two that I am most intrigued by are Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and Covenant Baptist Theological Seminary. Other than their obvious differences given their affiliations. I have heard good things about GPTS, but I haven't really heard anything about CBTS, is there anyone who is familiar with them? Thanks!

I have a Pastor friend here who attends CBTS and speaks highly of it. The books he is reading are excellent and the school features many of the prominent modern reformed Baptist voices, Waldron the Pres and Richard Barcellos, whose writing I have benefited greatly from (As a visiting faculty member). If you’re a Baptist it would be an excellent choice.

Seeing you’re not, it might be a strange choice, though I will personally still encourage it.

I'm starting GPTS next month. The main reason I didn't consider CBTS was the class schedule, which, like nearly all reformed Baptist seminaries, appears more geared toward students working a traditional day job whereas I wanted to take classes in person, mostly on weekdays during the day, which GPTS offers.

I'm a student at CBTS and really enjoy it. I find the content to be accessible and solid. There is also the fact that CBTS is incredibly affordable. If you have any specific questions I'd be happy to answer.

Thanks Jeremy! That's helpful.

Oh, interesting. For CBTS online do you have to take the online classes live? I know at GPTS, they want you to take at least a couple of credits per semester live and outside of that, you can stream your other classes. Do you know if that's not an option at CBTS?

The languages are required to taken "live" over zoom. They offer other things live as well, but they are not required to be taken in that format. They do ask for MDiv students that you come to the campus at least two times over the course of your degree for a modular course as well.

Are you a Baptist or Presbyterian? Seems like that would go a long way in making your decision.
