I’m thankful for a historical sourceBaptism in the Early Church - by Hendrick F. Stander and Johannes P. Louw
Considering your new PB ranking, I’ll allow itI know you asked for one and only one, but if you'll allow me to suggest another resource I'm more familiar with, it's one with a short section on patristic writings as well. Like any book, especially ones that attempt to address multiple facets of such a deep topic (pun intended...), it does have its strengths and weaknesses (you can "roll over" and view the table of contents). Its a little more on an intermediate rather than introductory level

As I currently understand it, the difference surrounds what to do with the OT covenants after Adam (Noah, Abraham, Sinai, David) and how those covenants relate to the New Covenant/Covenant of Grace. If I recall, he covers the whole range but only superficially, making it probably more useful vs. NCT (as an example) but I am not sure I would recommend this to someone struggling with the (at times) subtle differences between Westminster CT and 1689 CT.
