Can anyone point me to any stories of (1) preachers who cared so much for preaching that they did something heroic (such as suffering loss of life, property, etc. to preach), (2) people who loved preaching so much that they risked or suffered loss of life or property (perhaps believers in modern day China, during the Reformation, etc.)?

Thanks!

One of the main causes of the Covenanter persecution was Covenanted ministers' unsanctioned field preaching. Ministers and christians risked life and limb to attend these illegal conventicles.

Check out Howie's Scots Worthies. It's also available in audio on Sermon Audio. Plenty of heroism in the Scottish Reformations.

Also "Men of the Covenant" if you can find a copy.

Says Paul Washer (www.heartcrymissionary.com),

In my ten years as a missionary in Peru, I met indigenous missionaries of whom the world is not worthy. These are men who would stand for hours and preach while being mocked and beaten and having goat urine poured on their heads. They would preach until their persecutors grew tired, sat down, and listened! I know men who look like toothless, sandal-footed beggars, and yet they have started ten or fifteen churches.
