Trent, I lived in South Africa for 3.5 years. I will give you my limited understanding as a Canadian who doesn't speak Dutch or Afrikaans, and who spent most of his time in Cape Town.
The Presbyterian church in South Africa is very weak, and I think that there are only a handful, if that, who are trying to be confessional. Although I think there have been some good Presbyterians in the country in the past, South Africa never really was that Scottish, and for this reason, the (Continental) Reformed churches were always more prominent.
The Dutch Reformed churches (of which there are a few denominations) seem to have held their conservativism for a time. My impression is that the (White) Afrikaaners historically had a good culture rooted in vital Christianity, but that this has been lost of late. The issues of theological downgrade are similar to what we might observe here, for there is a common trajectory when a people turns away from scripture. I know a few faithful men who wish to continue along the old paths.
I think the Reformed Baptists are particularly strong in the country. Although, as a Presbyterian, I will naturally disagree with some positions, there is a vitality among these folks that continues to impress me.
