I have begun to read about the Scottish reformation. I ran across a fascinating sub-point in T.M. Linday’s “THe Reformation”.

In his chapter on the Scottish reformation, he discusses the the old celtic church/monastary and it’s emphasis on education. He states that the educational system of the celtic monastaries were second only to the scholars in Constantinople and that Charlemagne tapped this wealth of knowledge for teachers to staff the "high schools" which eventually became the older european universities.

When the old Celtic church gave way to the Roman Church, these cathedral and monastary schools produced large numbers of students that went to the continent, many to Paris, for further schooling under the care of traveling tutors.

I would like to do some research on these 15/16th century medieval theologians to include the 'dons' at Cambridge/Oxford, from this time period. Such people as John Colet.

I am familiar with the Scholastics...Abelard, Scotus, Magnus, Ockham, etc.

My desire is to find the educational influences of the personalities of the reformation. Wycliffe for sure, but what others?

Any source suggestions would be muchly appreciated.
