What would be a good thesis for a paper involving the American puritans. All I can really think of right now is something rather broad like how did the puritans lose their influence?

Perhaps you could narrow it down to the influence they once had in education (schools founded, literacy rate.)

Another option might be to concentrate on one person and some particular aspect of his life.
