Puritan Board Freshman
Forgot to do this last week, but bringing this thread back this week! Please feel free to let us know what your pastor preached on in his sermon today and what you took away from it for edification and application for your Christian life. Also if you are a pastor, please feel free to let us know what you preached on today!
Was back at home for my fall break from college, so I was able to assemble with the saints at my wonderful PCA church there. My pastor continued his series through Matthew’s gospel with a sermon on Jesus’s feeding of the five thousand from Matt. 14:13-21. It is a story that I have heard a million times, but he was able to glean insights out of it that I had not thought of before, and which were very helpful. Emphasized in particular 1) the compassionate heart of Christ towards sinners, especially in His willingness to set aside his own need for rest and respite following the death of John the Baptist (Matt. 14:1-13) to heal and feed the crowds; 2) the insufficiency of the twelve to minister to the crowds until Christ supplied them with the resources they needed to do so; and 3) the sufficiency of Christ to fully satisfy all our spiritual needs as our Bread of Life (John 6:35). Exhorted us especially to emulate the compassionate heart of Christ to others, and to recognize our full dependency on Christ to serve others, which is the only “fitness” He requires of us for service. Also partook in communion today.
