Please feel free to let us know what your pastor preached on in his sermon today and what you took away from it for edification and application for your Christian life. Also if you are a pastor, please feel free to let us know what you preached on today!

We are starting a new series in the Epistle to the Colossians this week, and my pastor preached an overview sermon from Col. 1:1-8. My pastor gave a lot of the historical background on the city of Colossae, which was very helpful. The main thrust of his sermon was from the words “in Christ at Colossae” in Col. 1:2a, and he discussed what it meant to be in Christ (covered in grace, resting in peace, having faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, having love for all the saints, motivated by the hope laid up in heaven) in a city that was rampant with paganism, Judaism, and emperor worship, and was also on the socioeconomic downturn. Very excited to be going through this magnificent epistle of Paul this semester!

Sabbath School: The eternity (or eternality?) of God, or God’s infinity in the context of time, one of His incommunicable attributes.

AM Service: Hebrews 6:16-20. We covered a lot of ground in this sermon. Interesting bits would include the fact that Abraham rose early to obey the Lord, He didn’t set out fleece or cast lots after the command to offer up Isaac was given. He received a promise and an oath afterward, but not before. The function of both a promise and an oath might possibly serve as a dual witness rather than a mere redundancy. Because Isaac must live, a dead body would have been no hindrance to God. Similarly, we have a strong consolation because Christ lives. His permanence and presence in Heaven is an assurance to the believer that in Him we are made acceptable. He is like a sanctuary city, but is a high priest that will never die. Ultimately we were called to have a faith like Abraham.

PM Service: Titus 2, especially verses 11-13 and how the grace of God ought to spur us on to love and serve Him more. The grace of God ought to humble us and lead us to learn and be taught of Him also.

AM, Ruth 2:12 - Boaz was right to understand Ruth's coming to Bethlehem as her coming to trust under the Lord's wings. This is one way to describe conversion, Ruth shows that outsiders can come, and the need to take shelter under God's wings is real.

PM, Job 42:7 - God vindicated Job by commending his speech about God, by making him the intercessor for his 3 friends, and by restoring what he had lost.

Adult Bible Class: Psalm 119. Because the Psalmist loves God, he loves God's Word so much that he constantly longs for it and conforms his life to it.

AM: James 5:1-6. The revelation and realities of and reasons for the coming miseries upon the reprobate rich. The reprobate rich in this passage was contrasted with the righteous rich in 1 Timothy 6:6-10 and 1 Timothy 6:17-19.

PM: Genesis 11:1-9. Man's clamoring for godhood vs. God's celestial glory. Here we see how humanity unites in their arrogance to storm heaven in rebellion against God, trying to topple Him from His throne. This was contrasted to Philippians 2:1-11, in which God's people are united in humility through the Spirit and the example of the Lord Jesus Christ, who obtained heaven for us, where we will be at the feet of God on His throne.

Sabbath school: Report from a missionary we support to the EPCEW who also preached in the AM. It was very encouraging.

AM: Psalm 4. Good reminder of how we can find trust and confidence to rest in the Lord, especially as we look to Jesus.

PM: John 6:22-35 on the context behind Jesus' teaching on the Bread of Life, and a reminder of how the Gospel is a free gift from God, despite the wrong motives behind the crowd following after Jesus.
