I was just told of a lady who said that her children recently learn that the "Puritans believed that they were the 'Chosen Ones' and had the right to slaughter the Indians and did" (Please consider the woman is Jewish as well, so the quotes on 'Chosen Ones' is highly intentional and distainful)

Help?!

did you ask her for sources? That usually ends the debate. Yes, the Puritans did believe they were a chosen people (see Winthrop's sermon "A City on a Hill.") No, they didn't believe they had the right to slaughter Indians. No doubt they, as did many colonists, killed Indians in wilderness warfare, but that can be ascribed to self-defense.

by the same token, can I have a resource that isn't necessarily "Christian" on that? It would help.
