Hans Egede, Norwegian Lutheran missionary, known as the Apostle of Greenland, lived from January 31, 1686 to November 5, 1758. He was a missionary to Greenland, preached the gospel to the Inuit Indians, wrote a catechism and translated Christian literature into Inuit. He also founded what later became known as Nuuk, the capital of Greenland.
