In which ways did New England Puritanism develop differently than its counterpart in England?

Theologically, culturally, etc.

I love that (romanticized) colonial New England time period, but I don’t know a whole lot about it.

Perhaps the biggest difference was the commitment to reforming the Church of England. The New Englanders were not "Puritans" by the strict historic definition but "Separatists" who abandon reforming the Church of England to live in the colonies according to their conscience, primarily as Congregationalists. Though they had much in common theologically, the Puritans remained within the Church of England and tried to reform it from within until they were finally forced out by Charles II, and began the movement of English Non-Conformity.

A sad day when no one on the PuritanBoard wants to talk Puritans.
