I have seen that Bucer refers to works of the law as Jewish ceremonies in Paul. How prevalent was that interpretation among the reformers? Was Bucer a black sheep so to speak?
I've not read that particular slant in Bucer, then again, my reading of his works is limited. However, I've never heard him characterized as a black sheep. If memory serves, he did have some protracted difficulties with the civil authorities and their involvement in ecclesiastical affairs, as did Calvin. I think he then emigrated to England and became and Oxford don.
