Hello All,

I'm looking to find a location for an Augustine quotation that Beza cites. I've looked in his commentary on 1 John, his treatise on the Trinity, his anti-Pelagian writings, but have come up with nothing. Here is the passage in Latin, with my rough equivalent in English (Augustine is referring to Ephesians 1:4, which Beza cites, but Beza also cites 1 John 4:9 in the preceding context):

Quia scilicet ipse prior nos dilexit: & elegit, non quum sancti essemus (sicut rectè annotavit Augustinus) sed ut sancti essemus.

Because indeed he first loved us, and chose us, not when we were holy (as Augustine rightly notes) but that we might be holy.

Anyone know where I might be able to track this quotation down?

Cheers,

A Huguenot friend of mine found this for me!

Never mind!

Cheers,
