Phenomenal evangelist, and a true instrument of God, which is one of the reasons he's my avatar. What's amazing about him is the extent to which he opposed emotionalism in the church; he would not receive an invitation to preach nowadays, as he actually exercised suspicion about anybody who exhibited emotion during a service.
I highly recommend reading the exchanges between Nettleton and Finney. Looking back at them now, it's very obvious that Nettleton was in the right, and unfortunately Finney tried to set him up for failure, which is very sad to see.
